hi. I'm thinking of lacing mid 80's suzuki RM 500 motocross and RM 250 motocross rear rims to to my yamaha 650 . The rims are stock aluminum Takasago. The 650 weighs in the mid 400 lb. range and the Suzukis would be mid 200s but in extreme service of course. Does anyone think this would be a problem or have any experience with this type of thing?

G'day 650C,you shouldn't have any problems strengthwise,i'm always using mxer alloy rims,(when you can find ones that arn't too bashed around!),just watch your spoke angles,80's RM rears will be fairly wide angles,your yam hubs are bit narrower,don't forget to measure your offset ist before you delace ,good luck,cheers  |

| Thanks for the info Matcho. I only have the hubs at present. Is there some way I can get offset information? Probably just have to find a stock intact wheel to measure. Thanks again for the help. |

| measured 3 fronts,"general " concensus is rim centred?,rear is 3.5" to rim centre from hub sprocket mounting face,cheers Mick |

| Just a point of interest.. if you look at the hub of the wheel you taking the rim from ,be sure that the hub is the same dia as the one you are going to use.. some modern bikes with disc brakes you will find the hub is much smaller, so wot happens is the rim is not drilled for your hub dia and therefore the spokes tend to bend in the wrong places which can cause all sorts of problems.. your Kneck, so just think about spokes coming lose and also may brake Rim are drilled in two planes one for dia them main one and also the width of the hub the 2nd is not so bad!! |
