From Vincent Messina Hi Guys,
Its been a while since I put pen to paper. I was hoping to retire disgracefully I guess! Since then a number of events have changed in my life, so I decided to compete for another year.
Unfortunately, the class is not traveling at all well. Now, I know that I have made myself unpopular with some members of the sidecar fraternity, but I don't believe I can be criticized for having the best intentions for the Sidecar class, and the people within it.
I was contacted today by Terry O'Neil who left a message on my phone, and whom also contacted Warren Bruce. The statement left was that as of this morning, he had only received 7 entries for the sidecar class. He has stated that he has contacted MA and further stated that if 10 entries are not received before Wednesday, then he will cut the class from the Championship Series. Please note that I rang MA's Daniel Hutchinson seven minutes before knock off time for the Easter Break, who spoke to David White who confirmed that by the GCR's we need a minimum of 10 sidecars to constitute a class.
Rule 13.3.4 Australian Championship quotes "Medallions and points will be awarded in the Australian Road Race Championship where there are (part b) 10 or more sidecars for sidecar classes which actually participate in practice, qualifying or races". I suppose this can be read as we need 10 although with the use of the word "or" instead of "and" means that perhaps 10 for qualifying is sufficient, rather than 10 for the race.
Its also states that you need 15 for the solo classes, which is interesting, since I believe I can count and there were a few solo classes at the creek that didn't meet this criteria. However, we need to concern ourselves with our own issues.
Having said all that, I suppose I have set the scene now for the following comments.
1. Once again, we need to rally the troops here to ensure that we at least have 10 outfits at Malalla. Unfortunately, I am not aware of who has entered, but I will be contacting some members myself. PLEASE CONTACT ANYONE YOU CAN AND URGE THEM TO ENTER.
2. I am not sure just what the problem is with the F2 class, but I personally went out on a limb (which has well and truly broken) by demanding that MA introduce the F2 as a championship class after being assured that 10 would be an easy number to achieve. WHERE ARE YOU NOW? We need you.
3. I understand that the entries are still relatively high, but here the choice is ours. If we want to participate in an Australian Championship series, we have to meet the minimum requirements. NO IF'S BUT'S OR MAYBE'S.
4. If you wish to see the end of a class that we all enjoyed and we believe in, then please do nothing. And for those who have sidecars sitting in garages fermenting, how much will they be worth when there is no class? THINK ABOUT IT.
5. If you cannot ride at the meeting, lend you machine to someone who can. There are a number of riders who have stated they will ride if someone lends them an outfit. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS. My number follows so I can be contacted anytime and will put you in contact with a responsible rider.
6. This is NOT about Terry O'Neil, MA or Vince Messina. It's about helping yourselves.
7. Lastly, IT'S TIME TO PUT UP OR SHUT UP.
I hope that was blunt and to the point, it's meant to be. I said it once and I'll say it again, if we don't work together we are finished. We did it once before, now lets do it again. SO I URGE ALL OF YOU, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, DO WHAT YOU CAN, TIME HAS WELL AND TRULY RUN OUT. Get on the phone, borrow a sidecar, or help someone enter. Whatever it takes, do it and do it now. Let's get through Mallala then we can do something about the remaining rounds and perhaps even take some long term actions to rebuild our class. We have several detractors to the class, but a hell of a lot of people, spectators, officials and fellow competitors who are for us.
Respectfully yours
Vincent Messina
