Hello all, my name is David Sykes and I have just finished my fifth season racing a Thunderbird outfit in the british Historic racing series. Next season will see me campaigning an Ironhead Sportster outfit which I'm currently building. I shall be running the lump on methanol and am posting here in case anyone "down under" is running an Ironhead and feels like filling me in on what not to do. Cheers, David

In about 1973 Don Emde brought an XR750 road racer to Australia. I believe it was based on the early sportster engine. The timing side bearing failed, and I believe the problem was fixed in the later engines.

Is your machine authentic or merely eligible?
