Posted - 24 Dec 2011 : 12:18:59 PM Hi All,
I am about to build a supercharged JAP engined BSA sprinter style bike and am in need of advice and performance parts to build the JAP engine.
I have been told by a number of JAP speedway guys that I need to contact Dave Basham for parts and advice, so does anyone have a contact details for Dave?
Thanks and regards John |

Posted - 01 Jan 2012 : 2:19:02 PM Yeah, that was sad to See Neil Street leave us Alan. I first met him in the UK back in 1979 when visting a couple of Aussie mates who'd wintered near Tiverton where he had his workshop. They did a bit of work for him and were also farm labouring, living in a cold and draughty caravan the farmer had on the property for his workers. I visited and met Neil through them and spent a day working in his shop checking out "black box" failures and problems. My electronics education and background got me in the door so to speak. Years passed and I was only indirectly in contact with Neil again a few months back while he was rebuilding the Heaviside JAP. Jon had contacted me to work with Neil to specify and order a rod set from Carrillo. Remarkably, Neil remembered well that day or two back in '79. I just wish we'd been able to meet up again. A clever man indeed. |

Yes, give me a call, we can have a chat about your project and maybe I can help. Apart from years of racing and building my own bikes I've built a few JAP V twin engines under Dave Basham's guidance. So far the only one that has been reached completion is the one installed in Tony West's classic speedway sidecar. It's been running quite quickly, reliably and of course musically around the speedway tracks since it's debut last June at a Gilman winter practice day. You can check it out...and some more information on each clip here: http://www.youtube.com/user/grannyjumast
You can see a bit more on my webpage here: http://www.eurospares.com/greg.html
Although I've only specialised in the V twins so far, I am about to undertake a build of a single cylinder big bore short stroke engine for a road racing and hill-climb racer in New Zealand so your enquiry might have some synergy with this project.
Whilst I can put you in touch with Dave Basham, (and I'd have to ask him first) I can tell you that he most likely would not be interested in doing any work or supplying any parts as I know he is spending all his time on his own projects these days. I see him at least once a week and know is simply not interested in doing for others....and he'd refer you to me anyhow.
Gave me a call, introduce yourself and no doubt we'll have an interesting chat....I'm good at talking, ha! Cheers,

Posted - 26 Dec 2011 : 3:44:49 PM Oops, that comment "So far the only one that has been reached completion is the one installed in Tony West's classic speedway sidecar" implies that some engines have not been completed....that's not what I meant, engines have been completed, it's just that only one has been finished as a complete bike and on the track, the other two still require final testing and tuning once they are mobile.
