Posted - 24 Feb 2012 : 8:06:05 PM Bob passed away recently. He had raced for an unbelieveable amount of time, maybe 66 years. Last year at the Island classic they recognised his efforts.
Bob always used strong language and could not understand why I hung up on him often, he would ring back, abuse me and have to ring back again. Eventually he worked out if he did not abuse me I would stay on the phone. Mind you, next time he called we went through it again. In recent times he raced with one eye and two artificial hips, he proudly introduced his 75 yo girl friend to me, he was about 85 yo and was still working, truck driving until recently until a car ran into his truck.
He even had raced sidecars, a true Gentleman. Anyway Toddy may have details of the funeral, Russell Craddick passed on the news to us. He was a nice bloke. RIP BOB |

Posted - 24 Feb 2012 : 10:43:54 PM Geoff Lanigan emailed the sad news tonight. Bob was Bob and along with a few others from the very old school was very hard to deal with but if you had a chance to make your case he soon became a very nice person and would tell you how much he enjoyed his racing and embraced anyone who got on with providing the events & practice days. In my many years with motorsport I have met around ten guys like Bob and miss them all. God Speed Bob. |
