Posted - 11 Apr 2012 : 07:17:49 AM Jerry, I believe that many people know the price of everything, but the value of nothing. I was guilty of not buying an original manx for $1300 in 1973. It was ex-Ginger Molloy, and was sold back to New Zealand for $40,000 in about 1985 after restoration. My feeling is that it is actually worth much more than a Molnar manx because it is the real thing. Would you buy a Mona Lisa if it was cheaper than the best print you could buy ? Would you hang the Mona Lisa in a public toilet ? |

Posted - 10 Apr 2012 : 10:55:18 AM Dear Conker, Got a photo of the genuine Article belonging to the Brighton Millionaire wrapped in Christmas decorations. There is also a complete Molnar Replica that is used on the track. I daresay the Replica may have cost more than the genuine and genuine can be dangerous for ALL competitors due to the age of various Magnesium parts. All the best Jerry Kooistra |

Posted - 07 Apr 2012 : 05:09:16 AM If anyone owns a genuine original manx, they should polish it and put in their lounge room, and buy a molnar to go racing. The genuine article is too valuable to race. The trouble is a lot of us believe that something is only worth what you can get for it when you sell it, we know the price of everything, but the value of nothing. Like that Brighton millionaire who recently bought the genuine article and replaced the motor with a molnar item. I'll bet the d1ckhead sells off the genuine motor ! |

Posted - 07 Apr 2012 : 04:56:17 AM I really like these too, but I wish the idiots here would stop mixing them up in races with thunderbikes and superbikes. It's a really stupid way to go racing !

Posted - 06 Apr 2012 : 09:19:32 AM Al, the fellas get all paranoid for no good reason. If the motor is aircooled 500cc with one cylinder and two valves, you hit a development wall. A six speed CR box might make the bike more competitive than one with four speeds, but it is really only because of the clutch start, and a good guy can make it up. The silly stuff begins with tyre warmers, the guy without them is at a disadvantage for a couple of laps. A seeley frame instead of a featherbed could help someone to be up front, but it still takes something brilliant to beat Molnar, or Walmsley Manxes. |

Posted - 02 Apr 2012 : 04:40:28 AM There woud not be even one Manx Norton in Australia which would be eligible to run in the Lansdowne Series. Every single one of them has been modified too much :

If you are suggesting we should go down that path, you are p1ssing into the wind. Better idea would be to start a cross period class for 500cc aircooled four stroke singles. Then you get all the hopped up manxes, seeleys, goldies, sr500s and even 80s honda singles. They are all the same TYPE of garbage.
While you are in such an innovative mood you might think about how the fellas can get to race these retros:

You can buy them off the shelf, and they might even become the future of classic racing in Australia.
Forget about authenticity, we lost the plot in October 1973 when Derek Picard and Peter Lord from the Velocette Owners Club started the historic racing bullsh1t at Winton. It was supposed to 'preserve the old racing machines' - IT NEVER DID THAT ! ! |
