The odd timing and gridding hiccup aside, you'd have to say the QEMSC did a bang-up job of the meeting. Early on there were LOTS of people telling you where not to go/what not to do (including some attitude at the gate) but they calmed down and the meeting fell into a rhythm, needing to get through 30 qual sessions and nearly 60 races over two days meant a tight schedule but the workers pitched in and it ran well. Most surprising for me was the Sunday afternoon, normally by that stage of the nats there are dead bikes, tired riders and empty grid spots everywhere but the fields stayed strong throughout and the big crowd were treated to plenty of good racing in cracking weather.
As you have mentioned Mick, the bus stop (Correctly called Full Stop by the commentators) was a bit of a flog, for no extra effort or cost it could have been angled a little or even had the joints eased off to a radius, in the end it was the same for everyone, there were no crashes there , and if that's the price we had to pay to get red-hot historic racing back on to Lakeside, it could be considered worth it. Also the Legend Laps concept on the Saturday worked beautifully, with Croz, Tony Hatton, the Sayle brothers, Ross Hannan, Ginger Molloy, Peggy Hyde, John Warrian, Jim Scaysbrook and others rolling out for a few laps : certainly a concept future nats organisers should consider. Roll on Mallala next year... |

well that was mostly fun bigtime,apart from the odd storm coming in late thurs,flash flooding the pits,weather was pretty kind to us,few issues with where to park,(solved by hiding up in the camping overflow area  ),congrats to all the winners,new oz champs,a big thank you to the organising club,the marshalls,a lot of tireless workers behind the scenes,i ended up with phillip island gearing sunday,forgotten how fast you come down onto the main straight,new bus stop was a bit sus,but was the same for everyone,god knows how the big boys got through there,tad squeazie,Peter from Meercat mufflers was kept pretty busy quieting down the odd few "over the limit" noisy bikes,think the trick there was to ride as far to the left of control tower pitwall where the handheld noise meter was situated,95db at 30mtrs ,good crowds both days,lots of people walking around looking at bikes,pity meeting ended on a sad note,but won't dwell on that, |
