Just checking if any of you are aware that if you renew your full licence after a 3 month lapse you will be required to pay a re test fee of $39.50, whether its your second licence or your 20th. Whereas if you have had a one event licence for years you never have to pay the fee at all.

r u sure u hve this correct? full licence to me would be a open licence thats good for 12 months, and the other a one event licence good for one race meeting so what u r saying is a one event licence does not require any testing! just pay up a cause problems to others. is this why people dont race anymore?

If you allow your full licence to lapse for more than 3 months you need to re sit the test and apply for a new licence, not just a renewal.
One event licences,in my understanding have never required testing.
So, under this arrangement if you keep applying for one event licences you will never be tested and never pay the $39.50 test fee.
Its in the GCR's.

Well then those who complain of the fee required now for "full" licence will be up for extra $40 so less and less will now not bother racing 4 times a year

I would like a response to what M.A are re-testing? If you have previously held a licence you should have an understanding of the rules and regulations pertaining to your branch of the sport. I have heard(from inside MAV) that the only reason for this is to be in line with the new vicroads policy on licenses. The wheels of change are snail pace in MA so find another excuse for the testing other than a source of revenue

Correct me i'm wrong here but we reakon its actually MV who are ripping you guys off for licences, theres been enough said about it. If this absurd rule is only happening in vic then ring MV for an answer. i'm sure its not in place in SA where a full licence is cheaper anyway.

It is my understanding that since it is in the GCR's it applies everywhere. MV is fact did not charge it for the first 2 years it was in place and have been reminded by MA to do so. As for what are they testing, contact MA direct, I dont know. I discovered this when my licence lapsed for 3 months due to and engine blow up and I waited until I thought I was ready to race again. So far I have held off and I will be waiting until the whole machine is ready.
But I can say, MV delegates have asked that the period of lapse be extended to 2 years.

I stand corrected.
Rule 3.3.1.11 and Rule 3.3.1.17a] cover this point.
Further research has shown that the fee is State based,I apologise for stating it was MA based.
MV now charge $39.50, NSW charge $5 if you dont have a motorcycle lic. and this covers the practical test and nothing for the knowledge test, some States dont charge at all.
I have been advised that the situation is now being reviewed in Victoria.

So how do MV warrant the charge of $39.50 when NSW only charge $5.00, yet others do not a cent?

I do not expect you to answer there John, but someone from MV needs too! Looks like it is revenue raising exercise to me and not a fair system to Vic riders.

I have been requested by Brian-R Payne (General Manager - MA) to call him, and I might bring this up then. He was not in his office when I tried a few moments ago. My inital e-mail states that he would like to get MA to put more input to the site. Will keep you updated.
