Hiya All,

Hope everyone had a good break and are now not toooo broke? OK, I have bought some Castrol R30 for the CB350 but am now unsure if it is 100% suitable. It seems like it would be, but the internet has funny ways of convincing you that you need things........
Do any of you have good luck with Castor oils? Also, is it totally required that the (expensive!) oil be emptied after each meet?I ask as I will be having a few track days early next year and don't want to be spending zillions on oil...........
Thanks and Cheers,
Ben.

dont mix it with normal type oils, all traces of other oil's must be cleaned out, means stripping your motor to clean oil pump and all oil way's, r is suitable for petrol and m for methonal fuel. their are better oil's now, try motul it does not gum up like castrol r/m which can gum up in your oil pump! just use "normal" oil and change every 2 /3rd ride's cheeper

Ben, I agree with what Allan has said, use a modern oil for a modern engine. You can go over the top and use a synthetic or use a good quality multigrade, personally I would use Castrol GP50 which has had a name change but if you ask for GP50 someone will put you right. Mostly its a personal choice. R30 was originally used in two strokes and sometimes in 4 strokes when it was particularly cold. They are still very good oils and I use R40 in my Gold Star, I love the smell, but I would be using a modern oil if I were you.
Good Luck and have fun.

Benny Benny, why isit you buy stuff then ask if it's ok??,R30 was/is mainly 2 stroke as Al rightly pointed out, might be ok when it's snowing, used to use R40,but it gets awful thin in 40deg track days,it's been semi synthetic (Castrol)for some years now so no longer gums up engines, but there are cheaper/"better"suitable oils available for your CB350,i was using penrite's 30,but switched to their semi synthetic,15/60 (i think),avoid full synthetic, your motors gauze filters not efficient enough to trap suspended particles, (paper filters are),Penzoil has a sport 40/50 ,i have also used Silkolene's racing oil too,(tad dearish, but ok),main point is change it regularly,i do after every 2 meetings, dropping it out hot after last race, hth?

Ben, If you have trouble getting rid of the R30 hang onto it until I come over in October and I will buy it from you.

I use R30 pre mix in my old Yamaha 2 stroker. In the CB350, and CB500 RC181 Replica, Castrol 4T, available at Supercheap or Kmart.
Normally wait until they have 15% Off sales, and buy a few at a time.
Full synthetics cause MY clutch to slip, and plates are expensive.
R40 gives the 'Smell', and Castrol are not bringing it into Oz any longer.
