Have an old family recipe somewhere in storage which was suitable for very small items.
From memory the following solutions were used for the process of plating.
Silver - double cyanide of silver and potassium.
Copper - acidulated copper sulphate
Nickel - solution of the single salt of nickel sulphate.
Iron - Ferrous chloride and calcium chloride
For anything more than the size of a fag packet we would take the item to the electro-plating shop, get them to do everything as per a normal job except polish it.
Really cool alloy finish was the result.
