G'day John, as we discussed the Southern Classic "feature" race i propose :
In past years the main Southern Classic race was for the fastest 40 qualifiers, regardless of engine capacity. I reckon this is the way to go for a quality, full grid feature race.I understand lapped traffic becomes an issue in 6 lappers but
I reckon it is the only way to go personally.As a stand alone race for the main prize if we get 40 starters...GROUSE!!!

Having discussed this around the traps some of the committee recall two things;
1. We could not find 40 bikes to fill the grid
2. People wanted to separate the 350 from the 500.
So you may see why the change was made, but was it a good change?

I am in total agreeance with the separation of the races on sat and sun for the 350 and 500 and the unlim. I believe the fields have been well subscribed in both 350 and 500.With the current separation of these races we have had some great racing in each class wowing the crowds.
I am only proposing the fastest 40 for the Sthn Classic which then gives everyone a go at the BIG PRIZE instead of just P3 bikes over 500cc.
Awards for the capacity classes within the race can still be awarded. Suffice to say if you have a good 250 you can still win the race!!!
Peter o'Neill's name is on the trophy riding a 250 Montessa in 1998, 1985 Dave Roper 500 Honda, 2001 Craig Morris 500 Manx, 2004 Peter Guest G50.
So all i'm saying is you do not have to be on a 1300 Vincent to win but if the prize is only available to over 500cc bikes it is limiting the competition in this "stand alone" Premiere event. :)

i am wondering if the topic name can be changed here to promote more feedback?
"sthn.classic trophy race format?" or something similar perhaps.
i see 60+ have read the post but we need more input for discussion here people...

Keith, I am somewhat confused as to how this would work.
If it is for the fastest 40 then it would seem like a Robbie Phillis benefit race.
Surely if one race is to be The Southern Classic it should only be for classic era bikes????
Am I missing something?

JohnFeakes, the "Southern Classic" race is for period 3 bikes....
There is a separate event for later period bikes.
I am purely talking about the period 3 event and the corresponding trophy which is a Bronzed Helmet, Gloves and Goggles...
