I am speaking here without referring to my committee. I am looking for feedback. "We can improve the standing of the Vic. Historic Titles and improve our service to racers and spectators by changing the format. I propose we run Sunday’s first race as the qualifying race for the titles, with the finishing positions being the starting positions for Heat 1 and 2 of the titles which replace the two other races we currently run. The time keepers have no issue with this, I have spoken with racers who agree the sandbagging in the first race and the failure to partake in the last race degrades the event.
“A hard fought title over two legs would be a better title,” Rex Wolfendon."
Please let me know of your thoughts, thanks

I agree but why not make it even more interesting (and ensure commitment across the weekend) by making the outcome of the Saturday races the qualifying (and establishment of grid positions) for three legs of the title race on the Sunday. This would mean that to get a good grid position on Sunday you have to try your hardest on Saturday and then all the races on Sunday contribute points to the Title. So, to modify Rex's quote a little, "A hard fought title over the whole weekend would be a better title!". Cheers Geoff Sidecar #30 |

I see what you mean. Would you accumulate points from Saturday for the grid position on Sundays 3 heats? |

Assuming there is a practice session on Saturday; why not have timed Qualifying in Saturday's practice & progressive grid positions from there on. With all races being point scoring rounds for the championship. |

Bernie, I like that idea. From what I saw half the riders sat out the "unimportant" races. This is not what spectators pay to see. Cheers, John |

Dead right Bernie and John, and for how long have we seen riders who have ideas above their status miss races at the nats because there's no personal gain, advantage or interest in running in them ? This only serves to deprive the spectators and devalue the races, the only plus side is that lesser lights may pick up good finishing positions, so good on them for going out and supporting the events. Half-populated grids do nothing to further the credibility of the sport. |

You may help the case by writing to the committe via 184 Through Rd., Camberwell, 3124.
And giving your view one way or the other on the topic. As I said I have not presented anything to my committee as yet, it all may come as a shock, but thats the way I often work, find out if there is support and then make the presentation.

I have been traveling from SA to Vic for the last 4 years for the Vic Titles and Southern Classic (This year I bought 3 bikes to get some good track time!)and will continue to come across as the circuit is an excellent place to ride and the Club accommodates for us and our bikes extremely well.
However, I would agree that the Title races need to be an accumulation of points from 2 or 3 races over the weekend as this then brings it back on the rider for consistency and the bike for reliability.
It is a little disappointing how the first and last race do not count for anything and in previous years I have ridden all races just to better myself. (Long way to go yet!) This year I chose to sit out the last race of the day and watch.
Well, I have to tell you that it is very boring as a spectator watching 3 bikes go around with great distances between them.
As was said earlier, "Not good for the spectators!".
Bring on the accumulated points system and long live the LC's! |

Years ago, if my memory serves me well, the title was over 3 races. (About 95?) I came a 3rd and my best result was a 5th. It should be over at least 3 races, as should the Aussie Historic Title. Consistency in your racing and reliability and keeping the grids full is as it should be. Rol. |
