the Historic management Committee of Victoria has been toying with an idea to help the HMRAV. Here is draft #2 of the idea and will involve the HMRAV accepting the offer. " Draft # 2 Riders of the 70's Summary To promote those riders and promoters from the 70's who are happy to talk about their success. Some do not wish to race so we could have bikes on display and some on the track for noise sessions. The display should have as many different types of bikes that were raced in the period. At 5pm Saturday evening we will run a chat session, chaired by somebody whereby all the riders will get a chance to chat about their experiences. Afterwards we can have a stand around and chat session. On Sunday the display and demonstrations will continue. Assuming it is successful we could look at different eras each year. TITLE OF EVENT We should use the title Riders of the 70’s. WHOM TO INVITE I suggest we invite anybody who had some success during the 1970's if it looks like too many would come, otherwise anybody. A condition of coming would involve some assistance to get representative bikes for display or demonstration. Bob Rosenthal, Ron Angel, Dennis Skinner etc. John Crawford, Mick Hone, Bernie Summers, John Maher, Rod Tingate, Frank Rodgers PROMOTION Approaches are to be made to relevant magazines, businesses who want to be involved to promote themselves and the event. It could be that Mike Hone, Peter Stevens, Giro are all happy to help. The HMRAV could be asked to include something in their posters and promotion etc about the plan. There are web sites that deal with nostalgia, magazines- Old Bike, Green Horror, Just Bikes etc Two Wheel Torque will come on and if we give him some money for extra TV time that would help. MV and MA will be asked to assist along with other racing clubs. EXPENCES We may have the following expences; Travel, accommodation, meals and promotion. It could be that some funds can be obtained from Industry. If we could call it the ‘ XXX reminisance” event or similar and that company puts up some money. Perhaps we can run a raffle as well subject to the HMRAV agreeing. We should try and sell DVD’s of the event as well. MANAGEMENT We will need to appoint some people to run things prior to the event and on the day, since some of us are still racing it would be impossible to do much on the day. The chair should have some knowledge of machines so the discussion is kept to the technical side of things rather than a running commentary of race results.
OTHER INVOLVEMENT Following the great acceptance of Kevin Magee’s presence at the HMRAV presentations, I believe there will be great interest in this concept. FUND RAISING We could have a donation bucket to accept donations to cover expences, with a provision the surplus is used for any privateer solo or sidecar team running overseas who are not getting support. CHAIRMAN We need somebody who can draw the conversation out, Lindsay Urquart, Ian Hutchinson, Colin Murray xxxx or a couple of them. Perhaps Doug Dukes could MC the event.
LOCATION AND EQUIPMENT The guests could be set out on the school room veranda and we should have plenty of chairs available for the crowd. Microphones and perhaps even a screen for vision of the period set up on the side near the tire wall could be a nice addition. MACHINES We need to find machines from the period, if possible not modern interpretations. Solos and sidecars would be great. Somebody should be solely responsible. Jim Cooks monocoque solo. "
Feel free to comment, offer to help, provide machines or contact aybody who may be interested.
