It's really interesting how we all try to promote our sport / hobby of "classic motorcycling" in Australia.. Only "one" club took the time to put their details onto this web page! www.qemsc.com.au
No wonder the sport is lacking "NEW membership"
you may think "but" every one knows about OUR club (HMAV). JUST THINK HOW MANY PEOPLE FIND THIS WEB SITE by using GOOGLE or other search engines !! and have no idea of any club's that are interested solely in "CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE RACING..
good on ya www.qemsc.com.au |

To back Allan on this, I have been sent e-mails from the online contact form on this site asking how to get involved in Historic/Classic Motorcycle Racing in Australia at least 2 times a week and I have had to tell them try this club or this club.
The site is here for the promotion of the sport, and if that includes the promotion of the clubs, then that is what the site is for, to get traffic to the clubs to increase numbers. The information I have put in the links pages, is by me and not the clubs which is free to add details and increase those numbers. |

It is almost as if we don't want people to know. Here in Victoria the club is H.M.R.A.V. You must be logged in to see this link. I hope this link works 'cause I don't know what I'm doing.

This topic slowed down very quickly? I would have thought that something as important as getting newbies into the sport of classic racing, would attract more comment? |

If we are to encourage new blood we need a club that is prepared to offer "come and try days" so that newcomers can gain experience in relative safety. These come and try days would then need to be followed by newcomers practice sessions so that the new riders can build up speed without being thrown in at the deep end. This would necessitate help from the track owners to make such days a low cost "dip your toe in the water" experience. It is in the best interests of the sport to take a long term view. Can it be done? |

John, In our club we run MX practice days as well as training days, for the kids. We intend to run training days on the Saturday immediately prior to Sunday practice days. This means that people can travel to Benalla, stop overnight, riding on both days. Perhaps something similar could be done with classic road race bikes at Broadford? Even if you ran a 'come and try day', immediately following a Champions Ride Day .. might be a good go? Depends on how much accomodation there is in the town of Broadford? - You'd be popular with the local business people! |

Good ideas and comments conker. HMRAV do hold a C&T day early December prior to the Sidecar Try Out Day. Well supported for a few years now. Over 260 beds available within 20 minutes of Broadford plus unlimited camping at Broadford. See the list on the Broadford page on MV webpage. As far as the local business people they can take more on a weekend than they take all week. |

Glad you like the site, Bernie. Some things are worth doing just because they are good things to do ? If it only gets one 'newbie' fired up and competitive, it will have been worth the effort. |

Patrick, is there a decent eating/socialising establishment in Broadford? After working on John Maher's tapes from the East Malvern Club, and watching Norm Lindsay's home movies, I've come to realise what we've lost from motorcycling in a social sense. I believe we can do things a lot better if we give it a bit of thought. I'll paste a link to Norm's stuff which I've put up on Youtube, and you'll see what I mean. |

Patrick, when I watch this movie that Norm Lindsay made in 1970, it makes me realise how much we've all changed. Perhaps we can take a step back, and do some of the good stuff again? : You must be logged in to see this link. |

I don't see many newbies contributing here. Would it be difficult to put a major heading on this forum saying 'FOR NEWCOMERS ' with a link to this topic? |
