THE CURRENT MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA DISPUTE WITH MOTORCYCLING VICTORIA has shown the world how not to behave. The dispute has degenerated to MA calling for the MV board to resign, something that MA has no legal right to seek. MA states it has concerns about MV actions with regard to "matters surrounding management and governance of the sport within Victoria over the past few years? MV announced that "MA suggests that concerns held by MAIL [ MA Insurance } about MV's operations and governance are the reason for MA's demand that the MV board step down, and for its decision to now withdraw MV's power to issue permits." In my opinion, there would be few if any sports bodies within Australia that has not had problems, I believe every State Controlling Body [ motorcycle sport ] since 1927 in Australia has had times of disruption, the approach by MA seems to myself to be illegal and unhelpful. Is MA just trying to muscle into Victoria? Now lawyers have been called in to resolve an issue between adults which would normally be resolved with a number of wise men and women talking and negotiating with all parties. Maybe 3 experienced racers from across the Victorian clubs could assist with arbitration before the legal bills start ticking. So huge costs may be piled on to the state controlling body financed by racing members fees. I can add I believe National controlling bodies without local state bodies is a poor way to do business, it would be like trying to get a waste bin lid repaired by calling Canberra. This issue needs to be resolved permanently by those involved remembering they do not 'own' the sport, they are in place to help manage it with others, for the good of all racers.
