Does anyone have any contacts for the Nationals in Tassy this year? I'm trying to organise some accommodation, and local knowledge would be helpful. (Simmons Plains were conspicuous by their lack of help!!!)
Also, I believe that there is a meeting the following weekend to the nationals at Baskeville.? Anyone have any knowledge of it?
Cheers, Tony.

Ahhhh Jerry, Levi will be "making up the numbers" eh?????

The club pres told me on the ph yesterday that about 5 or 6 have entered so far????

Can only expect a late flurry of entries perhaps???

With the logistics requiring early booking and planning i for one thought maybe people would have entered early also?????

HMMMMM looking forward to seeing you all there.
Cheers for now

Young Keith , As you know Levi Day will be there to help fill numbers. Would be nice to know who the other ones are in P3 350 and 500. All the best Jerry

Well, it seems that the Tas Ferry has decided to up their fares, just in time for the titles!! Buck and I can no longer afford the trip so I am sorry to say that we are out for this year.Costs have risen to in excess of $5K for the two events, fares and accommodation, not to mention a bit of pocket money. Its a shame, and dissappointing but what can you do? Cheers, Tony.

I have just had another look and it looks like they have gone up $148 dollars since my last post , they are now $935 for two people traveling with a ute and having a port hole cabin . It sure isnt cheap to get here or for us to get over there , we rent a house at the island each year, need 12 people to share to make it viable , i will have a look around for some cheeper accommodation over the weekend !

Come to the Seniors the end of this month, we'll have the beast out then.

Aw shat, you guys. I was getting all fired up to go across and watch. Now I'll have no-one to play with.
OldKwak Posted - 06 Jul 2011 : 8:20:25 PM
No wonder poor old Tassie is ending up a basket case
peen0_0 Posted - 06 Jul 2011 : 10:18:56 AM
Agree. The cost is equivalent to two round the world economy tickets!!!
OldKwak Posted - 06 Jul 2011 : 09:43:52 AM
Go to Europe, its cheaper

Ok guys , this is how it is ! We at the TMCC have nothing to do with the proposed race meeting down south , get in touch with the other club at www.srct.org.au

As far as i have been told : The Sup regs for the Aust titles have been submitted to MA for approval !
As soon as they have come back to us they will be posted .

No need to panic guys , the titles are still 5 months away !

I sent Fred a rev-up email about this situation just after I'd posted the above message, and got an email back almost immediately. He's on holidays until July 2, and will respond to all enquiries upon return, as he's been using someone else's computer while away and is aware he's missed the odd email. Still, a good, quick and positive response, so all looks ok.

PS Fred asked me to apologise for any missed emails, and just to recap the two club websites are:

http://www.tasmanianmotorcycleclub.com.au for the nats, and

http://www.srct.org.au for the Tassie state titles at Baskerville the weekend after.

EDIT : There's also a flyer for the historic nats at http://www.tasmanianmotorcycleclub.com.au/documents/historics_flyer.pdf

There are a couple of contact ph nos on the MTas site, maybe try them. This is not the only place where those trying to get info are coming up short. Maybe check the tz350.com forum, Holma on there seems to have something to do with it. You'd think they'd be bursting with helpful info by now.
peen0_0 Posted - 17 Jun 2011 : 3:21:03 PM
I've now been waiting for just over a week for a response to my e-mail from MT, TMC and MA about the Australian and Tassie titles in November, bloody hopeless!! Doesn't bode well for the events, or for us attending I'm guessing? WA will be a much better option I'm thinking, a hell of a lot further but cheaper, and the mob over there bend over backwards to help out! Cheers, Tony.
peen0_0 Posted - 13 Jun 2011 : 09:00:22 AM
Ang, your price seems to fit. We are 4 adults, twin cab ute and trailer for about $1680 return. The ute and trailer costs us more than we, ourselves, do!! TasVacations quoted $1800 approx! I've also looked around for the entry/supp reg's and can't find anything either on the MT, TMC, or MA sites? (I lost my blonde hair years ago, so don't think that it still has an effect?)Anyone have any info? Cheers, Tony.
Ang Posted - 12 Jun 2011 : 9:57:53 PM
Me again,I am wondering has anyone seen the supp regs or entry forms for either tassie meeting?? I had MTas tell me 2 weeeks ago all the forms are avaliable but I must be showing my blond side as I cannot find them. I have rung emailed and messaged Shaun from Sports Riders Club (Baskerville Meeting) but alas its going on 2 weeks and he's just not replying to me at all. HELP Ang
Ang Posted - 12 Jun 2011 : 9:49:33 PM
Hi there,I've done my booking online and found that 2 adults traveling with a 6mtr motorhome towing a 4 mtr tralier with a recliner chair on the boat is costing me $1362 return to tassie. TasVacation could not offer me any type of discount on the fares as they will not undercut the online booking fares they will only discount their accomadation prices.
peen0_0 Posted - 09 Jun 2011 : 3:20:57 PM
Many thanks for the info and all of the effort that you guys have put in here. We are still going, but will bite the bullet and spend and few bob to enjoy ourselves, at both meetings. The Wives are coming as well so we can't scrimp too much. Ya can't take it with ya!! Cheers, Tony.
bigdazoz Posted - 08 Jun 2011 : 09:01:17 AM
Hi Guys as a follow on from my previous posting, 20-April 2011. I have spent quite a bit of time on this and trying to get the rates down for those that Want to, or need to Travel with a Trailer/Caravan,

As I mention in my earlier post, and in Holma’s post above the price on getting a Car / Ute and most Vans (transit/sprinter etc etc onto the Sprit of Tassie is about $79 - $ 100 max each way. ( www.SpiritofTasmania.com.au)

I have been speaking with Fred Bessel and Paddy Marshall from Motorcycling Tassie quite regularly and they were hoping to be able to negotiate a special rate for getting bikes there via trailers with one of the Shipping companies, unfortunately as of today, no joy.. Paddy suggests that those that need to get together and pack a container and have it sent to Symons...

I have since the last posting been in discussions with Centrelink regarding the Tasmanian Freight Equalization Scheme...T.F.E.S

www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/businesses/tfes.htm"

Which is how they guys from Targa Tassie and the V8 Supercars get their freight across at the right prices....

From My discussion with them.

1: Centrelink will only look at the claim, after the trip is made, paid for, and completed.

2: Centrelink will only access the claim on its merits.

3: Some or partial cost of the Freight Portion ONLY may be paid for.

Problems with most of us travelling to Tassie making a claim from this scheme:
1: There is No Prize Money (one of the critiea)

2: We aren’t considered Entertainers

3: You Need an ABN / ACN

I have been told unofficially that should someone make a claim to Centrelink for the T.F.E.S for the Titles in November they would most Likely NOT get any payments returned. It’s up to you to try this form of recovering your costs....

So for you guy wanting to travel taking trailers/ caravans..There is a Calculator on the Sprit of Tassie web site...Make your booking with the dates in mind...

Don’t forget to work out your sailings making sure to stay the extra week and do the Tassie Historic Titles at Baskerville the following weekend.

As you go through you will have the option to enter your Trailer/Caravan dimensions etc...

If you decided not to use The Sprit for your freight I have been backwards and forwards with the freight companies I mentioned previous with No Joy getting better prices.

The details are the same as previously posted but are subject to changes with Fuel Excises etc.

Here are the sums:

Toll / ANL .... 1300 865 265

$115 per lineal metre or part there off
Plus 9.2% fuel surcharge...based on today’s figures
Plus 10 % GST
Plus inbound to Tassie a Quarantine payment of $12.00

So for ANL/Toll a 4 metre trailer is $ 550... Each way

Sea Road , Contact Ewan 03 64 20 44 03

$ 120 per lineal metre or part there off SOUTH BOUND
$ 80 per lineal metre or part there off NORTH BOUND
Plus 9.2% fuel surcharge...based on today’s figures
Plus 10 % GST
Plus inbound to Tassie a Quarantine payment of $12.00

So again for a Sea road for a 4 Metre Trailer is

South bound $ 585...
North Bound $ 385....

Hope this has been some help......See you all in Tassie....

Hi all , i have just dug out my paperwork from January when we traveled to Phillip Island for the Island classic . The first leg from Tas to Melbourne including a Twin bed ( two people ) , Porthole cabin with Exclusive Occupancy, Commodore Ute ( with two bikes and all our gear for 5 days ) was a total of $ 599.00 . This was a Peak period price .

The second leg from Melbourne to Tas was exactly the same inclusions, but a total cost of $ 377.00 .
This leg was a NON Peak period price.

Total cost $ 976.00.

Hi Guys, there has been a lot of discussion about getting to Tasmania and the simple solution is to get yourselves organised as a group and send a container over it lands at the track and all you have to do is to fly in and unload it. Our travellers from WA do it all the time and it is the most cost effective way of travelling. The club in Tasmania helped with a forklift to unload and crates can be had for nothing from bike shops so it really is the easy way around the problem.
As has been said by many the last meeting there was fantastic and there is no reason to suspect this wouldnt be the same.

bit early for the doomsday predictions, traditionally it all happens in the last few weeks,it was a good time had by all last time,no reason why this one won't be the same, trailers have always been exccy,it's the length, over 3mtrs wides another price hike too, rent a truck/van,my van took 6 bikes last time ,biggest bummer is no sydney ferry, out of staters are looking at fuel bill just to get to the ferry,we filled bike tanks up,no fuel drums but,av gas at the lonnie aiport,(unless MA's screwed us there too??),be there or be square,
JasonL Posted - 27 Apr 2011 : 10:34:41 AM

Hmmm, bit more room for P6 then! Sounds like they might need every entry they can get...
OldKwak Posted - 23 Apr 2011 : 2:07:15 PM
Regardless, it seems that the Nationals will be in trouble. Darren has already checked out the alternatives, including my previous suggestion. It seems the poor old Tasmanians are really getting ripped off, I do feel sorry for them. Nevertheless the Nats are rapidly becoming undooable.

Considering the number of people that went to the meeting last time it was in Tassie, it seems a bit strange there can be no support.
GD66 Posted - 22 Apr 2011 : 4:43:04 PM
Probably worth repeating at this stage that there's a Tassie Titles meeting mooted the following weekend at Baskerville run by the Sports Riders Club of Tasmania, further details @ http://www.srct.org.au .
If you're going through all the pain, pus and expense of getting down there, you'd be mad not to stay an extra week for a crack at the Baskerville Circuit, the topography alone makes it a must-see !
