Here is the Historic Committees submission to the overall plan. Feedback and comment is most welcome
MV Business Plan Historic Road Race
Purpose
To promote a high grade of historic racing on purpose built machines to the public. To preserve an era of motor sport, fulfill the passions of older competitors.
SWOT analysis of the Historic discipline StrengthsVaries ages of members Mateship Varies disciplines i.e. solo and sidecar New life for older machines Australian Historic Titles Small but hard core of committee men/women High enthusiasm of the competitors and officials Dedicated participants Cohesion within discipline Potential of Class “C” Indians v Harleys Small number of racing events available Co-operation between states in the standardization of rules Co-operation from riders on regulations Classic races very little burden on Motorcycling Australia High quality of race meetings and motor cycles Financially self-supporting Ability to function well with minimum outside support Use of Channel 31 by HMRAV
Weaknesses Diminishing numbers in the older classes & post classic sidecars Interpretation of Rule Book causes trouble Difficulty in obtaining trained and experienced officials for race meetings Lack of exposure from m/c press, lack of promotional skills Lack of funding to promote our marquee
Opportunities Vic Championships at Broadford now well promoted with Film Festival & BEARS Historic 2 + 4 meeting is a great display Southern Classic Festival is growing as an Historic based event Inclusion of Broadford Community at Broadford to develop the spectator base at Broadford Main races are promoted and advertised to entice public support Continued improvements to the pit areas at Broadford To op-opt restorers and riders of road going historic bikes into road racing To promote the discipline a great deal more Threats The cost of travel and accommodation Indecision about classes and eligibility The calendar in Victoria is becoming jammed with major events of all kinds Intervention by legal profession Lack of new blood Historic Changes Possible From No involvement of a Road Racer in trade inspector Lack of communication from Motorcycling Australia Management To
Motorcycling Victoria and competitors involvement of riders in track safety Improved communication with Motorcycling Australia
