There is discussion at the moment [sep 01] as to wether the PCRA NSW should cater specifically for some changes which I have proposed to the club via the sep 01 newsletter. The proposed changes make no attempt to change the GCRs for P4 or P5 and should not be seen as a threat too your racing.
The proposed changes are aimed at the following -
1/ Placing more bikes of similar performance on our grids racing for each particular trophy, to create better racing, better competition, more spectator appeal. This may be achieved by -
a/ INVITING P4 bikes to race in their P4 grids and also to grid with P5 bikes IF THEY WISH TO.
2/ Encouraging more new bikes onto grids by creating classes for
a/ 'Standard' machines, both large and small capacity,
b/ up to 750cc four strokes, which to date number 4-5...
3/ Possibly breaking the segregation [ at PCRA LEVEL, not MA level] between 350cc, 500cc and the proposed 750cc bikes. This might be achieved by MERGING these 3 groups into racing for the same trophy. In my experience bikes which would be eligible for these classes would be pretty even in race terms and would make for interesting racing.

My proposal for 'Standard' bikes would only allow the following mods from Australian release models:
The fitting of alternate footpegs and footpeg brackets, handlebars, exhaust, brake pads, front master cylinder [still within P5 rules], coils and braided brake lines.
Machines must retain original bore / stroke= capacity [+2% OK], number of gearbox gears, wheels, brakes, forks, swingarm, frame [may be braced], shock mounts, bodywork, ignition pickups / igniter{CDI}, Fork Valve [revalving OK but no Goldvalve damper replacements].
Expensive performance modifications can be limited by not allowing : cams with larger than standard lift, Head porting, Carb boring. These are relativelyt easy to check and if a machine is found to exceed 'standard' specs, it will be sent into 'Modifieds'
The use of more than 100RON fuels, Special ignitions, Rear shocks costing more than $400, Slicks, cut slicks, regrooving or tyre warmers should be banned to limit costs.

If you have any comment, good or bad, please post a reply on this site / email zoli@ozemail.com.au with your views.

Looking forward to your reply,
Zoltan Petri, PCRA member.
These proposals have been initiated by me personally and have not to date been ratified by the PCRA as a whole or at committee level as we are still seeking to identify levels of interest by our members.

PS - The above proposal aims to change ONLY the way the PCRA NSW's Rounds would be structured. It makes NO ATTEMPT to change the way MA structure P4 or P5. The PCRA would 'INVITE' relevant bikes into relevant classes and would not call the mix of P4 and P5 bikes as P5 in the programs. The name for PCRA's new mix of eras would probably be called 'FORGOTTEN ERA', which is actually NOT a name used by MA.

If you run this way, I'll gladly enter my Norton. It's a bit over capacity but WHEN it blows up I'll rebuild it as a faster 750. Anything which gets me away from racing against 1300cc four cylinder bikes can't be all bad. I raced a 500 triumph against Z900's, H2's RD's right through the seventies, and managed to outride them at Winton on occasion. It's very frustrating to be blown off in a straight line by bikes with double the capacity. I've been thinking, up to now that it's futile running the Norton, as much as I love it. You give me a bit of hope that I might ride something enjoyable and actually be competitive on it.
