Can anyone tell me if Leathers with Kevlar inserts in the non critical area's, i.e. Back of legs, inner arms, are OK for racing? I'm in the process of looking at a new set, the old one's have shrunken for some reason???????? Cheers, Peen 0_0 (Sidecar #20)

Hate that, mine shrunk as well. I blame it on the sweat (not beer). Your best bet would be a quick call to MV - straight from the horses mouth is always better.

An interesting topic. If the rules were applied to the letter I think most would be sent home. 15.1.2.1 c) The following areas must be padded with at least a double layer of leather or enclosed plastic foam at least 8mm thick.......iii) Both sides of torso and hip joint. How many would pass that test? However.......constructed of leather or other material of similar or greater durability. I would say that Kevlar would fit this requirement. On the day it will depend on the scrutineers opinion. I have looked at them and thought they could be good for summer. I have also seen them road tested but only at minimoto speeds. Please let us know what you learn. Cheers, John |

I've spoken with MV today. The initial feeling is that Kevlar would be OK, as per the rules, however the matter will be raised at their board meeting on Wednesday, and I will be given the outcome. I'll post the response back here when I have it. I was told that basically, the onus would be on me, and others, to prove that the Kevlar is as good or better than leather in this case,to the officilas at a meeting, i.e. scrutineers, but we'll see what comes out of the meeting. I can also say that I found MV to be very understanding and helpful. Cheers, Tony. |

MV have responded. "Those that are in the know say that Kevlar is fine" BTW. The only bike that I'll be pushing will be the outfit if it runs out of fuel!! Cheers, Tony. |

The response was in an e-mail from Peter Wright at MV John. Cheers, Tony. |

I have observed a sidecar team or two using Kevlar suits. It was yeams from the modern era and I cannot remember for sure whom, but I wonder if it was Souter.

Warren Thompson from WA and his passenger use Kevlar suits in Modern Meetings without a problem. Personally I do not like the look of them at all.
