WOW !! Having got back from another blinder at the 2008 Southern Classic, I find that since my absence, entries for the 2008 nats have gone NUTS, and with double-ups will exceed 170 according to the running tally on the club website, historicracing.asn.au, so a warm vote of thanks to all our friends from the east who have followed through on early promises and joined in. Happily, after early unease, even the sidecar entries have given us enough to race for titles in P4 and P5, with still maybe another couple to filter in. If you wish to view the massive entry list, hit the club website and click on the poster for more details...... most important, those requiring METHANOL will have to contact VP Racing Fuels and pre-order their supplies in 20 or 200 litre drums for pre-delivery to the circuit, please get in early and arrange this important detail.... info on the website. Looking forward to catching up with all our friends from around Aus at Barbagallo once more, and at the risk of repeating myself, thanks again for coming over and making the 2008 nats a ripper !!

Just thought I should let you know that the link on your website which should take us to the list of entrants is not working! I also noted when I got to your website that orders for merchandise needed to be in by 6 October! This was news to me because I had not been able to access your website until tonight! Does this mean that merchandise is no longer available to us? Apart from that I am now really looking forward to our trip west. And while I am here let me commend you all over there for approachability and helpfulness. Anytime I have talked to anyone from the West you have been very friendly and helpful. Thanks

Are you living remote, Geoffrey, the link is working ok. Click over to the nats poster and down to "partial entry list", click that and you're away. No mate, you won't miss out on gear, there's plenty available and even if it runs out, you will be able to order and have it sent on with a small postage fee. Also, I can advise that we will have Russell Gidley operating a tyre bay for the weekend, for a small fee per change. Two Wheel Wreckers in Osborne Park will be open Saturday and Sunday, and although metho must be pre-ordered, Shell 100 will be available from a bowser at the circuit a number of times throughout the weekend, cash sales only and supply your own containers. We will also have access to welding facilities, and to quell scurrilous rumours that the pit facilities are non-existent, there are PLENTY of covered concrete, powered pits available to all. The garage situation is that when things blew up at the car club a year or two back, all the lockup garages were allocated to members, who keep their race cars there all year round. Subsequently, as a result of patient enquiries by nats committee member Bob Hull, a few of these garages gave become available on a sub-let, first-in basis for the weekend, phone our race secretary Marion Shaw on 08 9249 6687 to try your luck. But if you miss out, the covered bays will be patrolled by overnight security throughout the weekend, so we expect all will be in order. As always guys, please feel free to fire in any other questions or problems as we get closer to the event. |

Hi again all, did the envelope stuffing last night for gate and car passes, many of you have ordered extra passes which is great, but many on the entry forms have not included the dreaded TRANSPONDER FEE so can expect a full service and tune from our race secretary upon sign-on, actually it'll be more like a cash up front lifesaving exercise. Just a reminder that METHANOL sales must be in before Friday, November 7th, so if you wish to order 20 litre, or 200 litre drums, PLEASE contact VP Racing Fuels, David Thomas on 08 9443 1719, or mobile 0417 910 036, to avoid any drama. As we've outlined, Shell 100 will be available at the circuit bowser. As I write, the entry list has exceeded 190 machines, great stuff ! And many thanks to all concerned behind the scenes who have got the meeting to this stage, including David who has let us grace his front page with our race poster. Regards GD66 |

Friends from the eastern states have begun arriving in Perth for the nationals, only a week to go : if you're heading on over, bring your Aeroguard, the flies were out in force at the Kings of Wanneroo meeting last weekend. For those not travelling, and left at home muttering they should have gone, you'll be able to follow the results, updated pretty much as each race concludes, on natsoft.com.au, courtesy of our timekeeper Raymond Shaw. Should be a ripper ! |

Got this Press Release today:
Press ReleaseFor immediate release November 18, 2008 Roberts set to line up for Historic showdown2008 FIM 1000cc World Superstock Cup Champion Brendan Roberts is one of a record number of entries registered for the Australian Historic Road Race Championship taking place this weekend, 21-23 November 2008 at the Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo, Western Australia. The South Australian rider will join more than 150 riders and with 200 bikes registered to compete, the 2008 Championship - to be run by the Historic Competition Motorcycle Club (HCMC) of Western Australia - promises to attract a huge crowd and is sure to provide an enjoyable weekend of racing for all riders and spectators. The traditional blue riband event of the Championship, the Period Three 500cc class, was won by New Zealand rider Dave Cole at the 2007 Championship at Eastern Creek, and Cole will be up against a strong field of riders at Barbagallo including Roberts, Chris McCausland, Lyell Williamson and Mandy Beales. Race Secretary Marion Shaw said she had been overwhelmed by the support the event has received - particularly with the large number of riders making the trip from the East to compete – and is extremely excited by the opportunity to host such a fantastic event. “I’m very much looking forward to the weekend,” Shaw said. “We have the biggest entry of riders we’re ever had, and the representation from the eastern states is enormous – normally we’d be lucky to receive 25 entries from outside WA. “A phenomenal amount of work has been put in by a lot of people to get us here, and I am confident things will all run smoothly.” The HCMC previously hosted the 1998 and 2003 Historic Championships and many riders will have fond memories of these well-attended events which were widely acclaimed throughout the Australian motorcycle racing fraternity. Titles will be up for grabs in numerous classes, with practice and qualifying on Friday 21 November and racing on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November. More information including Supp Regs, event schedules and rider entry lists can be found on the HCMC website at You must be logged in to see this link.-Ends- <<Words 343>>For further information please contact: Paul Fink Communications Officer Motorcycling Australia Tel: (03) 9684 0507 You must be logged in to see this link. ___________________________________ Location: 147 Montague Street, South Melbourne, Victoria Postal: PO Box 134, South Melbourne, Victoria, 3205 Mob: 0412 662 721 Fax: (03) 9684 0555

I've done one for Old Bike Australasia, and the AMCN one is out....Ken's had a huge swing at us in his own column, and I won't be getting involved in a slanging match on that subject....BUT the expected Dave Cole/Mandy Beales faceoff was neutralised when the Kooistra Honda cracked a frame tube in the Sunday morning warmup: by then, she'd beaten Dave twice in the Saturday trophy races. She had her revenge with two wins in the P3 350 championship. Cole won both heats in the 500, to win from Tony Hynes (Vinton) and the fast-improving Brendan Roberts (G50) who took a 2nd in heat two. He is intelligent and media-savvy, and will be a great ambassador overseas next year. He's only just tied up a ride with a privateer Ducati squad in World Supers, word is that all teams are really struggling for money to get going for 2009. Joey Ahern won P4 350, but only after Adam Senior had won heat 1 by 14 seconds, then crashed out of the lead in heat 2, handing the win and the title to Joe, whose huge, wide sweeping classic lines into the basin were a joy to behold. Keith Campbell and Bob Humphreys fought out a K4 civil war throughout the weekend, in fact 10 of the 21 entries were CB350s, Honda heaven (and not an Ossa to be seen . Robbie Phillis had two wins in P5U, but in a dramatic heat one, first Laurie Fyffe (GSX) and then Adam Senior (TZ750), highsided onto the straight at the end of lap 1, causing a red flag and restart. In fact, Fyffe's CB750 P4 bike blew a gearbox Friday, so he went home with no points in either class. Ray Watkins/Roy Brittain (Kawasaki) defended their P5 sidecar title from Chivo's TZ750 Peterbilt, and in P4 the Queenslanders had just reward for travelling so bloody far, and picked up a quinella, with Lindsay Donai/Christine Menzies heading Ron Bennett/Daryl Skewes. Allan Warner/Mark Hanlon (WA) chased hard to pick up a good third. Feedback from competitors indicates most had a good time and enjoyed themselves, the racing in reality was not the most electric ever seen, but crashes and blowups earlier in the weekend played their part. Poor old Jeff Britton trowelled the big TZ750 in a big way on the Friday, and has broken his collarbone I believe, when I spoke to him at the Island Classic he was looking at parking it after the nats, so I hope he will relent, and treat us to some more magic from the big Rottweiler. Keith should be home by now, and may give us his perspective. He had a mixed weekend, but when interviewed Sunday lunchtime, was still smiling....

Quite the reverse, Oldonk, P4 Junior had 21 entries, 10 of them Hondas. As outlined in the report above, our champion for 2008 is the flying Joey Ahern (SA) on the Trev Otto Yamaha TR3, with Keith Campbell(Vic) and Bob Humphreys(WA) (Hondas) and Terry Morris(Vic)(S2 Kawasaki) all tied up on 38 points for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Adam Senior, the 2003 champ, won the first leg by 14 seconds, then trowelled it while leading in heat 2, handing the win and the title to Joe. For my money, 350 PC was arguably amongst the strongest fields, and with the best racing of the titles this year..... mind you, I may be a tad biased... Full results on natsoft.com.au Also, our club website historicracing.asn.au has several links on the frontpage to various photographers who attended the nats. Many thanks again to all our friends from the east who made the trip over and helped make it such a successful meeting. |

Well Barbara and I have just arrived back in Adelaide after a fantastic 5 - 6 weeks away. I want to say thanks to all the West Aussies for there warm welcome and assitance with regards the racing. While I had a number of gremlins with my outfit which put a damper on my racing I still had a great time. A special thanks to Alan for a whole lot of things including running me around Perth looking for parts and to Glen for looking after me prior to the racing. A big thanks to everybody else who would have liked to have helped but just did not seem to have a pocketful of ignition parts for a H2. And of course a big thanks to all the sidecar people for making the racing what it was. As for the race meetings I reckon you guys in WA should be proud of yourselves. From a competitors point of view both the Title meeting and the Collie meeting were well organised and run. A particular congratulation on your flexibility to accommodate individual requests. I had a fantastic time, met lots of new people and had a lot of fun when I did get on the track - yes even 'that wet race' has provided the opportunity for telling stories... And then to top it all off we had a great holiday around south west WA. And yes, the 'Blue Bus' did about 8,000kms without missing a beat! I have got some great photos (including 'that' photo Alan) which we will get onto the web in the next few weeks so keep an eye out for those. Thanks everyone for a fantastic time. Geoff Sidecar #30 |
