MV to set up Bushfire Fund for affected riders
Motorcycling Victoria (MV) is pleased to announce the creation of the “Motorcycling Victoria Bushfire Fund” with the aim of assisting licence holders, affiliated Clubs and Club Member riders affected by the Bushfires.
The devastation caused by the fires has been widespread and well publicised by the media.
However a number of our “Motorcycle Family” members have been greatly affected losing bikes, riding gear, tools, machinery and equipment.
MV wants to support these riders in any way we can to ensure they remain in the sport they love and plan to engage the advice of the Clubs to identify the specific needs of the affected rider. We believe they are best positioned for this purpose.
Depending on the level of funds raised MV may not be able to replace a burned bike, however as we all know the cost does not stop with the purchase of a bike. All the other riding gear, tools etc adds up to a major cost and all these are necessary to ride or compete safely.
Many organisations, businesses, individuals, Pro Riders, other State Controlling Bodies and Clubs have already expressed a desire to support this initiative.
The State Motorcycle Sports Complex was blessedly saved from the fires which raged around it and MV immediately lent its support both financially and physically to the fire fight.
The circuit was closed for two weeks with MV providing the Complex and its facilities as a base for Emergency Services due to its central location to the Kilmore, Wandong, Kinglake fires.
MV will kick off the fund with an initial donation of $5,000 and encourages our affiliated clubs to donate towards the fund. We see this as a fantastic opportunity to band together and directly support others within the Motorcycling Family.
The State Motorcycle Sports Complex has re-opened, with the Emergency Services moving out, so now MV are looking to utilise the fantastic facilities to further support bushfire affected riders.
To go along with the donation, MV is further planning a number of initiatives to raise funds.
A major initiative will be a Bushfire Fund Ride Day being planned for the State Motorcycle Sports Complex at Broadford. There will be many activities on the day including a Charity Auction and of course plenty of riding on all circuits. All proceeds from this day will be directed into the MV Bushfire Fund. There will be more information on this shortly once a suitable date is set.
If you know of anyone affected by the recent Bushfires, please contact the MV Office on 03 9482 5422.
