I have just acquired a suzuki GP125 compliance plated december 1979. Can anyone one assist me with - what period it is eligible for ? - what level of modification is permitted ? - is there a production type class within post classic or do road bikes race against grand prix machines (eg TZ125) ?
Greco, See the rules for Historic road racing starting pg 139 here: You must be logged in to see this link. There is no distinction between road bikes & race bikes in any official Australian Historics Championships. Basically just about any modifications are allowed as long as the bike & it's parts are externally indistinguishable from bikes & parts available in the era. You can modify anything you like internally, forks, motor bits (eg crank components & pistons - gearbox bits are generally not so easy); in Period 5 it seems that most late model shocks are now allowed. Any ignition systems can be run including programmable ones. Unfortunately only Unlimited P5 bikes are allowed to change wheel sizes to 17" & therefore little bikes generally don't run slicks, as decent 18" slicks are unavailable in smaller sizes. Dunlop, Bridgestone & Avons have good treaded racing tyres, though not all brands are available through the official distributors. Good luck, hope to see you on the grid. Bummers
