Over the years I have ben involved on websites from time to time people have asked why do you appear as the HMRAV secretary and not yourself.

Firstly I use sites as a source of ideas and answers, I feel since I am one of the few fully identified people on the whole web, I imagine [ I hope ] people will not only try and help with an honest answer, but may think to a greater extent about their response, knowing I may be able to use the information for the betterment of many.

Secondly, sometimes I can speak with a certain amount of authority, knowing I am accountable to my committee if I muck up, and clearly explain things with the background knowlegde I have. In my opinion there are too many anonymous or even drop-ins who are not accountable to anybody for their comments and spread rubbish and rumour.

Finally, most times I have a personel opinion, and I do from time to time, I make a statement as such to separate myself from the club. If you think I have mixed personal and HMRAV issues, ask me please.

I reckon I have covered the situation pretty well over the years, if you dont think I have let me know.

I am amazed how many people ring the HMRAV committee about the issue, without even asking me first.

John, I'm sure we all appreciate the opportunity for democratic input to the major group running historic meetings in Victoria. A lot of us pine for the old days of the ACU, but they really weren't that flash. This web site was originally set up to encourage discussion between the proponents of our sport. I believe it achieves that objective well. It's just a pity that we seem to have alienated the historic commission of MA,and there is little interaction from that quarter. I realise MA don't want to get involved in controversy, they are just SO PRECIOUS!

Good call Ang. It would be easy to dilute John's ideas as personal agendas, irrelevancies, or trotting out the HMRAV's party line. Sadly for his opponents, John's not only staunch, honest and hardworking, but he's QUICK ! HMRAV are lucky to have a man of his ilk batting for their cause.
Not everybody's going to agree with every point he raises, but he'll debate them without rancour or slight. HMRAV do enough to get us over from Perth every year to the Southern Classic, so no complaints from the West...
