Just a note to tell you that the recent Winton round of FX will be on Channel Ten next Sunday at 12.30 pm. There were a few historic bikes competing - Stuart Loly went well as usual. Best Regards,

Personally I reckon modern promoters should stick to moderns and clubs etc should stick to a mixture with Historics sticking to Historics. I am worried that if the class and periods get too mucked up, the time may come when there are not enough bikes for any meeting because they are spread too thinly. What do you think? |

John,
I have to disagree there on not running Historics at modern meets. I thought that any promotion for Historics/Classics/Post Classics was good promotion.
An example of how this would benefit Historics/Classics/Post Classics, would be to run a couple of separate Historic/Classics/Post Classics only races with the modern boys/girls races.
This is turn would show the public that Historics/Classics/Post Classics are just as much fun as the moderns and much more affordable to run.
As for the clubs, yes, Historic/Classics/Post Classics should have their own clubs, but they should also get together with their nearest modern club to help promote each other, after all it is not just a one way street..
If you want justification as to why I have said this, then look at what you have been trying to do over the last 12 months.
You have been trying to get more riders and spectators out there at meetings, and most that know about moderns (most of the public) have not heard of Historics/Classics/Post Classics before and would like to ride, but can not afford to get out on the track with moderns. I am pretty sure that they could afford it with Historics/Classics/Post Classics.
May be worth visiting to get those bums out there at the meets.

So you could try and run a historic Sidecar event and perhaps a solo class say 500cc periods 2,3 and another P 4 and 5 unlimited or 750cc. Would you get a leg in at a mojor meeting with a big crowd? Who runs modern events now, I know Hartwell do any others? |

It is just a matter of keep on knocking, even with the knock backs. There should be some modern clubs willing to give it a shot.
After all, the Forgotten Era are proving to be great at the Formula Extreame meetings so far..

Bin thinkin Perhaps we could use this site to work out a package we could present to a promoter. So if we broke it down - what do we want to achieve? - How many events? - What classes would best represent the discipline? - What track would be prefferred? - Any meetings in mind? . . - Could we get 8 sidecar events into the package? - Which promoters would we approach - Could it be run interstate, not necessarily as a series just a package? Lets work on it, but NOTE I HAVE STARTED A NEW TOPIC ON THE SUBJECT PROMOTION AT MODERNS |

David, would it be best to shift this part of the topic to a new one "Promotion at Moderns", do you agree? |

John,
Went a little better and created this new area and moved it there.quote: Originally posted by john

But I went with a general version targeted at Historic/Classic/Post Classic rather than Moderns.

If Formula Extreme is about 'moderns', what were the P4 T-Rex Hondas, Stuart Loly ( P6 Suzuki GS1100), Dennis Brown (P4 Suzuki 500), and a guy with a TR3, doing there? |

We can all learn a bit from the way Terry O'Neill promotes a meeting. I understand he actually makes a quid from it. I believe he owns the big TV screen with speakers - makes for most impressive commentary. If he decides to promote any form of historic racing, we should get with him! The last FX meeting at Winton was conducted in a most professional manner. Best Regards, |

My only concern with mixing extensively with private promoters is that I doubt we would be able to get lower entry fees. Also, I ask what is that wrong with the current Historic scene that it could not be fixed, within the current structure. |

Just received the following, might be of interest:
If your not at the Shell ASC at Queensland Raceway this weekend then tune into Network TEN this coming Sunday at 12.30pm for a one-hour action packed hit of Formula Xtreme racing. From the series final of the 2003 Yamaha Formula Xtreme TT Series held at Eastern Creek Raceway on Sunday the 13th July. The show will highlight all three Sunday Formula Xtreme races; there is extensive use of on boards cameras and interviews of the top competitors in the TT series premier class, Formula Xtreme.
With grid sizes in excess of thirty competitors in the premier Formula Xtreme class the out come of the days racing was always going to be exciting with Australia's best road racers set to challenge the series leaders. The racing in all three FX races on the day was both fast and furious, which was guaranteed, as only six points separated the two leading series combatants at the beginning of the weekends action. Team Nikon Yamaha's Daniel Stauffer came to the final round with the slender lead from fellow team mate and five times Formula Xtreme Champion Kevin Curtain. The two Nikon teammates battled with each other for the much-coveted title of 'King of Xtreme' for 2003. Each took their turn at carving the other up at every chance and in the process not only smashed the lap record but traded race victories. So make sure you either watch the Formula Xtreme racing action this Sunday at 12.30pm live or if you are planning on being out and about at that time then set your video recorders to catch the one hour special on TEN and watch it later.
Why not tell/email your friends about this story and give them the same opportunity to watch some great Australian motorcycle road racing action.
