John, Sidecars have always played second fiddle to solos over the years. However there has always been a few top line machines present at most meetings I've ever been to. The good guys like Alec Campbell, Stan Bayliss, Dennis Skinner, Barry Marshall and Orrie Salter were always worth watching. I have watched modern outfits, and I must say the worms don't do much for me. I was most impressed when Orrie Salter rode the ex-factory Rennsport BMW at Phillip Island back pre 70. Only a 500 but very fast. (He wasn't supposed to take it home to Australia.)
I don't know how we'll ever get anything like that back into historic racing

Is your machine authentic or merely eligible?

You mightn't know about Orrie SAlter. He was an international competitor on the GP circuit back then. A mate of Allan Greenings Ross Pirani rode passenger with him. The agreement was that if Ross passengered Orrie would pay all expenses including food. Ross used to wander the pits in Europe begging for a feed. There was a rumour about that the Manx conrods Orrie used to sell weren't too strong. When Orrie came back here after being in Europe he was unbeatable.

All good stuff and when the Festival takes off we can all talk about it in the Bar. Keep watching.
