With the incredible popularity of the REGULARITY in historic car meetings, I would like to see what interest there would be in introducing this into historic motorcycle race meetings. I am sure that it would interest the older riders with older bikes who wish only to ride at a consistant lap time for points.

There is a set of regularity rules floating around, John Daley prepared them, MA would not accept them and he hawked them around for support from the other states. Ask him to send them to you. |

REGULARITY TRIAL additional Supplementary Regulations draft 8 March 2006 Subject to final approval by MA
To be read with the Supp. Regs. for the Historic Winton Meeting 1. A Regularity trial is a test in obtaining a consistant lap time with no mechanical or electronic aids nor outside assistance in maintaining speed, speed is not the determining factor. Any on board instruments need to be covered. A Recreational Licence will be required for this event. 2. The Trials will be conducted over 4 or more laps of a circuit and is NOT to be construed as a racing event. 3. Method of starting Machines will be assembled at random in the dummy grid area and guided onto the track in an orderly manner, all machines must be on the track before the first machine comes around. There will be no warm up lap, but practice will be held. 4. Method of Finishing A red flag will be used to signal the end of the event when the time allocated for the event has transpired 5. Timing Timing will start from the moment machines come around to complete the first lap or pass a designated point and will continue until the designated time has been completed. In the event of any machines completing more than the designated number of laps for timing purposes, the time for the initial number of laps will be the ones used for the event scoring.
6. Scoring - will commence with 100 points and for each 2 seconds in excess of the estimated time 1 point will be deducted, and for each 2 seconds less than the estimated time 5 points will be deducted from their score. 7. Each participant - Having regard to lap times obtained during practice, will determine a total time they feel they can maintain during the event for the designated number of laps. They will be required to advise the Race Secretary, in writing, the total time they expect to take for the designated number of laps. - Must produce evidence of an ability to ride a motorcycle.
8. AWARDS The person with the highest number of points left will be the most regular rider.
- Any pre 1980 machine. - All machines must be race safe, tie wired oil plugs, glass removed or taped up, and must go through scrutineering, Log books are not required for this event. 9. NOTES - All machines are to be displayed between events in the designated display area, near the pits. - If possible identifying numbers, a minimum of 140mm high, should be attached to each machine on the rear left hand side. - No car passes will be allocated to regularity trial participants. Machines must be ridden or pushed from the trailer parking area to minimize the pit congestion and improve safety. - All participants will be required to have full leathers and safety gear as specified in the GCR’s ie, approved helmets, suitable gloves and boots. Back braces are optional, but encouraged, because no racing is taking place. - All participants will require either a full MA racing licence or a MA Recreational Licence, cost $15, and are required to sign the MA indemnity form attached. - Riders who in the opinion of the Clerk of Course are racing or have outside assistance will be black flagged and removed from the event. 10. FEES - Entry fee will be $25 per machine - Competitors already entered may enter this event with a fee of $0 to cover admin. costs.

Thank you John. This looks great.
Now, how can we record peoples interest before we start to canvas MA.
I guess if you are interested in REGULARITY please reply here and included details of the type of bike you would like to enter.
The More diverse the bikes, should increase spectator/entrant interest and help prolong the sport.
Thank you for your support. |

The issue with MA was the licensing. If all participants have current MA licences the event could run. We tried something with nJohns concept but the racers were not interested. We think now the plan needs to be 'sold' to people who want to be around a race track, but dont want to race flat out. If that can be marketed you should have better sucess. If they bleed about licence costs, remind them they still need insurance cover anyway and need to help cover the overall cost of running the sport. Also, work needs to be done with the race committee to get them onside, because some see a regularity as a waste of time.

This sounds like a great idea and is something that I would support when my bike is finally finished (P4 125 Honda). We have the veterans' dinner on Friday and I will raise the idea there to see if there is any interest. Will keep you posted. Cheers, John |
